How To Lose 5 Pounds In A Week

Do you have a couple of extra pounds you’re desperately trying to lose? Are they hanging on for dear life and giving you a muffin top instead of melting away to give you the body you want?
Blowtorch. A blowtorch is what you need to melt those extra pounds away. Simply ignite, melt away the fat, and admire the new, thinner you!

*Waits like 5 minutes*
OK , are the psychopaths gone? Can we go on with the article in peace? Don’t burn yourself with blowtorches please.

Anyway, for anyone that doesn’t use a blowtorch, it can seem impossible to melt that extra weight off. Cutting your diet in half, spending hours on the treadmill, and even signing up for trendy new workout classes isn’t doing the trick. And neither is using a blowtorch on your own body! What gives?

It’s super frustrating to lose a couple of pounds and then wind up gaining it back and then some! What is going on here?! IT’S ENOUGH TO MAKE ME TAKE A BLOWTORCH TO MY
FREAKING THUNDER THIGHS!!!

Losing weight doesn’t have to be this hard. Plus, you don’t have to rush out and use half your paycheck on a gym membership or a personal trainer to yell at you in a boot camp. Or give yourself 3rd degree burns with a blowtorch. With a couple of simple moves and consistency, you can easily drop 5 lbs in just one week.

Just select a few of the following tips and tricks to incorporate into your every day life. Shedding pounds is easy when you stick to a couple of fat-blasting methods that get you results fast. There’s no starvation, crash diets, or crazy 2-hour long workouts here. Or blowtorches. Definitely none of those.
Pick a minimum of 4 of these tricks, but do as many as you like. The more you do and stick to, the more pounds you’ll shed. The key is commitment. Do it every day for a week and you’ll see the results yourself.

Step 1: Burn Off All Your Fat With A Blowtorch

Just kidding!

Do 30 Minutes of Cardio Each Day

This is the go-to method of dropping weight. It gets your heart rate up and boosts your metabolism to burn fat off.

While running is the obvious solution, a cardio workout is even better if you choose a routine that uses multiple muscles at the same time.

You know, like running from a ravenous jungle tiger while doing bicep curls and stomach crunches at the same time.

If that sounds too complicated (you know, if you’re a PANSY ), boot-camp classes, cardio kickboxing sessions, and spinning all scorch between 200 and 300 calories per half hour. You also tone up your legs, abs, and arms for a sleeker physique overall.

Think about it this way: for every 3,500 calories that you burn and DON’T replace with food, you lose one pound of fat.

Over 7 days, that’s 500 calories per day. So just by supplementing cardio into your routine, you’re already most of the way to the goal of losing weight.
If you’re looking to increase the intensity and get more results in a shorter amount of time, interval training boosts the calorie burn with short, intense bursts of cardio, punctuated by periods of slower-paced movements.

A good rule of thumb to go by is that if you’re talking to a workout buddy, you have to catch your breath occasionally. You shouldn’t be struggling to breathe but it shouldn’t sound like a normal, even-toned conversation either. That’s when you know your heart rate is up and you’re burning calories.

Get Extra ZZZ’s

OK . This is the easiest one. I’m telling you to sleep. Legitimately, just sleep more. WHO DOESN’T WANT TO SLEEP MORE?
*guy in coma raises his hand*
Wait, what?

We could all use extra sleep but getting in an extra 30 minutes of sleep (whether you’re a night owl or a heavy sleeper), can help you feel rested and more energized.

Why does that matter? WELL : when you’re tired, you tend to make poor food choices, reaching for sugars, carbs, and caffeine to keep you going. I’ve been guilty of sneaking out to the store for a Red Bull (or two) the night after mainlining a season’s worth of TV on Netflix.
Whoa… Word auto-capitalizes Netflix. THE FUTURE IS REAL.

Anyway, this has been proven by science. A study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition clearly demonstrated that people who are sleep deprived snack way more, especially late at night – plus, they are much more likely to choose high carb, unhealthy snacks.

Your body needs adequate sleep in order to build muscle. You can boost your metabolism while you’re dreaming by sleeping for an extra 30 minutes. Also, come on, I’m telling you to SLEEP . HOW EASY IS THAT?

Pack A Better Lunch

If you’re like most people, you probably grab your lunch on the go or travel out to a bakery or deli to pick something up. That’s because bakeries and delis are delicious, and easy, like YOUR MOM. BURNT.

Getting back to the topic (not your mom), when you’re in a rush, you don’t take the time to think about what you’re putting in your body.

So swap out the crap for the good stuff! Substituting one or two things you normally consume can help you cut out calories and shed the pounds. If you always reach for candy or chocolate after a meal, swap in some chunks of fruit. While it still has sugar, it’s not processed and loaded with extra oils, fats, and calories.

Also, choosing a lean protein like salmon can keep you feeling full and give your muscles some much-needed protein to keep them toned. (Mmm, toned muscles, like your mom…) Pair it with a green bean salad and you’ve got a healthy, power-packed lunch that keeps you going.

Cut Out The White Bread

Simple carbs are the enemy of flat abs. Wait, that’s a great slogan! Autocratic empires were born on less!

SIMPLE CARBS ARE THE ENEMY OF FLAT ABS. WE, THE FLAT ABS PEOPLE, WILL HUNT DOWN AND ELIMINATE ALL SIMPLE CARBS UNTIL ONLY FLAT ABS REMAIN. ALL HAIL SUPREME LEADER, FLATAB.
All hail.

Anyway. By cutting out white flour products – like spaghetti, sandwich breads, and rice – you eliminate bloating and actually prevent yourself from reaching for more food. Simple carbs are digested quickly and leave you feeling hungry shortly after your last bite.

The University of Rochester Medical Center conducted studies where they recommend that people should aim to keep their blood sugar levels relatively consistent throughout the day. If you’re eating simple carbs, it causes your blood sugar levels to spike and crash, leading to more hunger, and feelings of weakness and fatigue.

If you’re still craving pasta and breads, swap in whole-grain options or try some protein-packed quinoa with vegetables for extra fiber. Fiber makes you poop more, which helps your metabolism! Poop! Just think about poop often and you’ll cut out white flour in no time!

Instead of having a chicken salad wrap, just make it a chicken salad. Instead of chips and dip, have vegetable sticks with hummus. There are plenty of ways to swap in healthy alternatives without skimping on flavor or satisfaction.
And you know what they say about flavor and satisfaction: your mom.

Drink More Water
OK . We’ve got stuff on this list like “do cardio” and “cut out bad carbs”. Those are the hard ones.

They’re harder to do than DRINKING WATER AND SLEEPING.
It’s as simple as DRINKING MORE WATER . You hear it all the time because it’s true. Adding in more water to your diet has amazing benefits that help you shed the pounds. Drinking more water helps to eliminate fatigue, keep you feeling full, and flush out toxins from your digestive system.
PLUS, IT’S DRINKING MORE WATER. I’M NOT TELLING YOU TO CLIMB MT. EVEREST (AKA YOUR MOM OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH).

Instead of reaching for a soda or smoothie for lunch, drink a glass of water first. You may find that you don’t even want the other beverage afterwards. That’s because you’ll be HYDRATED . Because: WATER .

Besides, sodas, sports drinks, and fruit juices are loaded with empty calories, packed with sugar, and can even have surprisingly high sodium which makes your body retain water, making you feel bloated and puffy. Plus, you’ll look bloated and puffy. Stay Puft Marshmallow Man or Flat Ab Master, your choice.

As if you needed another reason to drink more water, The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition recently published a study that showed that dieters with an increased water intake lost more weight than dieters who drank less water.

I have a dedicated water bottle that I drink from all day and keep by my nightstand to make sure I’m drinking enough. I also have these little flavor packets I get from the store when I get bored with the taste of plain water. Which is fair but come on, water is delicious. It’s WATER . People have been drinking it for literally infinity years.

7 Effective Tips To Get Rid Of Arm Fat Fast

There is one big that many hates as they hate the belly fat! How to get rid of arm fat fast? Arm fat is something very unappealing and restricts your choice of outfits in many ways. In fact, the big and flabby arms can ruin your appearance. Losing arm fat is not an easy thing.

Although many people effectively melt away the fat and reduce the flabbiness in much part, it is really hard to remove arm fat. The upper arm fat and back arm fat stays for a longer time when compared with fat deposits in other parts of the body. It may sound weird, but in many people, arms appear bulgy, while their body appears in good shape. General weight loss and fat loss methods won’t be effective in losing arm fat. Here are the 10 simple ways to get rid of arm fat fast.

1. Weight Lifting

This is one of the most effective and time-tested methods to remove of upper arm fat. You don’t need to buy the dumbbells or hit the gym just for the sake of lifting weights. All you need is one or two water bottles. Fill the bottle water, preferably two liter water bottle fully. Your dumbbell is ready.
If you are comfortable, you can exercise both arms to reduce the arm fat with two water bottles of same weight. If not, just start with one arm.
Sit comfortably in a chair. (You can also do it by standing)
Hold the bottle firmly.
Extend the arms sideward, make sure that the arm is straight.
Raise your hands and lift the bottle above your head.
Do it slowly.
Gradually lower the arms.
Do it for 3 to 5 minutes, thrice a day. Just make sure that your body is straight when you perform this exercise.
Lifting weight helps burning fat from the arm and also aids in toning the muscles. Weight lifting also strengthens your core, which also assist in reducing your tummy.

2. Swing Your Arms

Okay, this is totally a fun way to reduce the fat of your arm. Also termed as arm circles, this helps you lose the arm fat in a simple way. Swinging the arms adds shape to the arms and makes it look toned. This is very low impact workout and you can do it anything without any restriction.
Stand straight with legs slightly placed apart. It eases swinging.
Extend both arms straight to the sides
Start making small circles gently, in clockwise direction.( 50 to 100 circles)
Repeat the same in anti-clockwise direction (50 to 100 circles)
Do it three times a day.
The forward and backward circles of arms not only reduces the arm fat, but also tones the shoulders, biceps, triceps and upper back muscles.

3. Jumping Rope

Again, a childish way to lose upper arm fat is jumping rope. In fact, jump roping is one of the best exercises that reduce flabs from all parts of the body. It gives a toned structure to the whole body, by melting away the fat.
Do jumping rope for 15 minutes a day. Don’t force yourself to skip the rope too much. You might end up damaging the muscles.

4. Pushups

Yes, pushups are too hard to master. Yet, think about the benefits your body derive from doing regular pushups. When you pushups, your whole body weight is endured by your arms. It’s a good way to melt away the stubborn fat from your upper arm as well back arm.
Pushups are just great that has its core concentration on arm fat, which is often missed. Reduce your upper arm fat, under arm fat and back arm fat with ease.

You can from 12 to 20 pushups. If you cannot try traditional pushups, just rest your knees on the floor to get some comfort. Start with doing 5 pushups and gradually increase the number of pushups.

5. Reduce Your Calories

Arms accumulate fat in a silent way that you cannot notice. So, the extra calories you consume not only accumulate in your stomach, but also in arms. To reduce arm fat fast, you should make sure your caloric intact is appropriate.
Avoid eating high calorie foods. If you are already following healthy diet, but still have fat arms, eat several times a day by reducing the quantity of a meal. Instead of eating one big meal, break it into two meals. It also improves your metabolism.

6. Do Aerobics

Aerobics can be very mild to intense. It is very versatile and can help you lose arm fat in a week. Aerobic exercises burn fat all over the body.
Go for low impact but effective aerobics like walking, jogging, dancing, running, etc. Swimming is the best aerobic exercise to lose arm fat fast.
Aim at doing some aerobic exercises for about 150 minutes a week, which hardly counts to 30 minutes a day for 5 days a week.

7. Massage Your Arms

In some people, lack of muscle mass or weaker muscles gives a flabby look. The most effective way to strengthen the muscles is massaging. Massaging improves blood circulation, aids in replenishment of nutrients and oxygen to the tired and weaker muscles. It removes muscles soreness and makes it firmer. You can self-massage your arms by applying warm oil.

11 Best Supplements and Vitamins for Weight Loss

If you’ve been eating low-cal and low-fat, and working out regularly, but still haven’t seen the scale budge, your body is telling you that it’s missing something.
This can be especially helpful if you have hit a plateau in your weight loss journey.

One or more of the following vitamins and supplements could make the difference and help you shed those last 10 lbs!

Even a diet heavy in fruits, veggies, and lean proteins can lack the specific nutrients that aid weight loss.

Supplementing your daily meals and snacks with these nutrients can lead to short-term weight loss and keeping the weight off long-term.

We have selected the best supplements for weight loss based on the latest scientific data and research.
You can try one, or combine a couple, to improve your overall health and get the scale moving in the right direction.

We also have a short video on Supplements for Weight Loss on our Youtube Channel, The Health Nerd, that you might find helpful!

11 Best Supplements and Vitamins for Weight Loss

1. Protein Powder

Protein plays a couple of major roles in weight loss. First, your body burns more calories metabolizing proteins than it does processing carbs or fat.

Second, protein helps you build and maintain muscle tissue.
Since muscle tissue burns more calories than body fat (even when you’re just sitting around), building and maintaining muscle is key for weight loss.

Most of us don’t consume enough protein from our daily diet to get the true weight loss benefits, which is why a protein powder can provide an added boost.
Protein powder provides a highly concentrated amount of protein in one easy step.

Whey protein, in particular, seems to be the go-to for weight loss. A study published in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition concluded that taking whey protein may lead to loss of weight and body fat, and help to increase lean muscle mass.

My favorite brand is ISO 100 Dymatize Hydrolized Whey, Gourmet Chocolate, because it’s high in protein, low in carbs and sugar, and tastes like a dessert!

2. Glutamine

Glutamine is an amino acid that is essential for your body to build protein, which in turn helps it maintain muscle mass. Since muscle plays an important role in burning calories (see above), a lack of glutamine can keep you from losing weight.

In a study published in 2014, women who took glutamine supplements for four weeks–without changing their diets or exercise routines–lost more weight than women who took only a protein supplement for four weeks. The scientists concluded that glutamine was “safe and effective” for weight loss.

Glutamine is in foods like beans, spinach, and cabbage, but if you don’t eat enough of these foods on a daily basis, a supplement is probably the best way to increase your glutamine intake.

One of my favorite brands for this supplement is Optimum Nutrition.

3. Matcha Green Tea

matcha green tea powderGreen tea is a popular dietary supplement for weight loss because of the antioxidant EGCG, which can boost your metabolism during exercise (1). Matcha green tea has even more EGCG than regular green tea, so you’re more likely to lose or maintain weight with it.

Matcha green tea comes in a powder form as opposed to loose or bagged tea leaves. Grinding the tea leaves into a powder is what allows you to get more nutrients from matcha than from regular green tea.

Remember that exercise remains essential when taking matcha green tea. Continue to jog, run, lift weights, or do another type of moderately strenuous exercise routine once you’ve introduced matcha to your diet.

While the Japanese culinary grade matcha is quite expensive, there are plenty of other organic brands that are produced in China that have just as many health benefits.  My favorite brand is this one from Amazon.

4. Fish Oil

Fish oil is made up of omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3s are well-known for their health benefits, including lowering cholesterol and improving overall heart health.

The words “fatty acid” don’t exactly scream “weight loss”, but omega-3s may help you lose weight by stimulating enzymes that initiate the fat-burning process in cells (2).

Omega-3s are found naturally in foods like salmon and nuts, but most people don’t eat enough of these foods to get the recommended dose. You can get an omega-3 boost through easy-to-swallow fish oil capsules.

One of the best and most affordable brands is a bestseller on Amazon by Dr. Tobias.

5. Vitamin D

Did you know that Vitamin D plays a role in helping your body determine whether or not to burn fat or store it?

When your body doesn’t have enough Vitamin D, its levels of parathyroid hormone (or PTH) increase, which can lead to your cells converting sugars into fat instead of energy.
A study from 2009 suggests that if you increase your levels of Vitamin D when starting a low-calorie diet, you’ll lose more weight, including in that stubborn belly region (3).

To get the daily recommended dose of Vitamin D, spend a few minutes outside in the sun or take a supplement.  I recommend this brand by Viva Labs (or check out the one below that also contains calcium).

Vitamin D also helps your body absorb and use calcium, which has its own weight-loss benefits (see below.)

6. Calcium

Scientists have been working overtime in the past several years to prove that calcium does much more than maintain healthy bones. Many studies show that a low-calorie diet that is high in calcium can increase weight loss.

According to another study, African Americans, in particular, may benefit from diets high in calcium.

A couple glasses of milk aren’t enough to get weight loss benefits. Get yourself a calcium supplement that also has Vitamin D.

7. Probiotics

Did you know that overweight people have complete different gut bacteria than those at a normal weight?

Certain probiotics may be better for you than you may have realized. Lactobacillus rhamnosus (LPR), for instance, has been shown to help obese women achieve sustainable weight loss.
Even up to 50% more weight loss in some cases.

Probiotics can be easily added into a standard or low-calorie diet. Try eating more Greek yogurt (low sugar!) and pickled veggies like sauerkraut or kimchi.
The best way to start healing your gut and bringing back a balance of healthy gut bacteria is to start taking a probiotics supplement.

No matter what supplement you use, you want take AT LEAST 50 billion units of probiotics daily from a minimum of 10 different sources for best results.

While you don’t need to purchase only refrigerated probiotics, make sure the packaging is well sealed. It’s also essential that the packaging is dark (or opaque, not transparent) to protect from light damage.

We have our own brand of Probiotics here at Avocadu called Gut-14.  Avocadu Probiotics Supplement
Our specially formulated probiotic supplement contains:
Probiotics are one of the best solutions for healing your gut, helping you lose weight faster, and providing you with a healthy source of gut flora every day!
You can read more about it and why it’s so important for not only gut health but overall health on our probiotics page.

8. Carnitine

Carnitine is an amino acid that is found in the bodies of plants and animals. In humans, it helps in regulating how the body metabolizes fats and carbs.
Without enough carnitine, your body may store fat instead of burning it. Carnitine is found in many supplements taken by weight lifters.

9. Olive Leaf Extract

You’ve heard that olive oil is a “good fat” that can help you lose weight. Now, olive leaf extract–the key substance that gives olive oil its health benefits–may do the same (8).
Olive leaf extract can help manage blood glucose levels, which is important for weight loss. When blood sugar levels spike, or are erratic, the body tends to store fat instead of burning it.
Stable blood sugar also means fewer food cravings, so you won’t be grabbing foods that ruin your weight loss progress.
Nature’s Way makes one of the best olive leaf extract supplements.

10. Apple Cider Vinegar

Bragg’s Apple Cider VinegarApple cider vinegar (ACV) contains acetic acid, which helps to keep your body pH balanced. Properly balanced pH helps your body function properly, aiding in long-term weight loss.

In this video, Dr. Eric Berg explains how apple cider vinegar helps your body absorb minerals, mobilize calcium, digest proteins, and stimulate the thyroid; all functions that are important for weight loss.

Be sure to watch all the way through; at minute 10, he shows you how to make an ACV “cocktail”.
Apple cider vinegar on its own is an acquired taste, so mixing it into a drink is definitely the way to introduce ACV to your diet. I like to sip it through a straw, which makes it even more palatable and keeps it from damaging the enamel on your teeth.

Apple cider vinegar won’t cause you to drop a ton of weight immediately. Add it into your long-term routine to keep weight loss consistent and long-term.

It can be found in most local grocery stores these days.  Just make sure to get the organic, unfiltered kind with “the mother” (aka healthy enzymes).  Bragg’s is the best brand on the market!

11. Vitamin B12

Vitamin B12 itself won’t cause your body to burn more fat or calories, but having more of it will help you to convert food into energy instead of fat.

If you lack energy to do even light exercise, B12 could help get you moving.
B12 is in many multi-vitamins, but can also be taken as a stand-alone supplement.
Bonus! 12. Take a strong dose of our 21-Day Fat Loss Challenge!

Always remember that there is no supplement for a healthy diet!

People lose an average of 10-21 pounds in 21 days and absolutely love it!  But even better than the weight loss is the feedback we get from people about how the program has taught them how to change their eating habits and find a diet that truly works for them in the long-term.

THIS IS WHY YOU HAVE BLOATED STOMACH AND HOW TO GET RID OF BLOATING AND LOSE WEIGHT OVERNIGHT!

Helicobacter pylorus (H. pylori) is a type of asymptomatic bacterium that causes infection in the stomach. It affects about two-thirds of the world’s population and may be transmitted by unclean food and water. If left untreated, it can cause peptic ulcers and even stomach cancer. Without proper medicinal examination, these bacteria are hard to detect.

How do you know?

H. pylori can produce various symptoms and the most common include burping, bloating, heartburn, esophageal reflux, constipation, diarrhea, flatulence and upper and mid-stomach discomfort. People generally mistake these symptoms for normal body manifestations.

H. pylori is the main reason for gastritis – an inflammation of the stomach lining. Gastritis accounts for 90% of duodenal ulcers and around 80% of gastric ulcers. H. Pylori can also trigger a number of other conditions that are not directly linked to digestion, such as cardiovascular issue, headaches and Raynaud’s sickness, which is impaired circulation in the hands and feet.

This bacterium can decrease serotonin levels in the brain thus triggering depression and nervousness.
It can happen to anyone, including you
The bacteria thrive mainly in the stomach lining and are believed to be transmitted by eating food or drinking water that has been contaminated with human fecal material, or possibly through contact with the stool, vomit, or saliva of an infected person. Exposure to family members with H. pylori seems to be the most likely opportunity for transmission.
It’s advisable to check the conditions of any restaurant you go to.

What can you do about it?

Pylori can be successfully treated in more than 80% of cases. Consult your doctor to get the appropriate therapy. Treatment usually involves a combination of antibiotics and drugs to reduce the amount of stomach acid produced, and these are taken for several weeks. Maintaining a proper dietary regime and plenty of vitamins A, C and E, along with zinc, is essential in order to protect your stomach lining. Taking probiotics such as lactobacillus and bifidobacterium is also advisable.

Last, but not least, is maintaining proper hygiene like washing your hands frequently and properly.
Drinking water from safe sources is also very important.

In case you feel at risk of becoming infected with H. Pylori, contact your specialist to get an appropriate examination. You can never be too cautious with issues of this kind as they can also influence your social and work life, apart from your overall health.

This drink is especially beneficial for relieving stomach bloating and boosting your energy levels at the same time.

Sodium Bicarbonate Eliminates Belly, Thigh, Arm And Back Fat: The Only Way It Work Is If You Prepare It Like This

Our kidneys and pancreas can create sodium bicarbonate substance that is identical to baking soda. It is created in order to control the acidity of our blood as acidic blood causes different diseases and chronic inflammations. It neutralizes the excess acids which are produced by the digestive and respiratory system.

The process of losing weight is very hard. However, with the help of baking soda you will manage to shred some extra kilos. The results will amaze you.
Baking soda and grapefruit or lemon

Ingredients:
½ cup of water;

Top 20 Metabolism Boosting Foods That Burn Far Away

Delicious, nutrient-dense foods like chocolate and avocado can help you lose weight.
When trying to lose weight, we tend to fixate on the foods we aren’t supposed to eat. We salivate over cheesecake at the coffee shop, eyeball our partners’ pizza and dream about cheese, glorious cheese. Instead, shift the focus to the delicious and healthy foods that actually speed up metabolism, aiding in weight loss and preventing the storage of more fat. You might just get so hooked on green tea, yogurt, avocado and hot peppers that you find yourself cheating on your former favorites, not on your diet.

Green tea
If you want to get your metabolism revving, choose green tea over black tea or coffee. Studies have found that green tea is not only packed with flavonoids and antioxidants, it also has thermogenic properties, promoting fat oxidation. That means it helps burn the calories from the food you’re eating while you’re eating and digesting it.

Apples
That oft-repeated adage about apples and doctors is backed by solid science. Apples are a low-calorie, nutrient-dense source of fiber, so eating them with meals or as snacks can help you feel full longer. Eating an apple each day can also help prevent metabolic syndrome, a disorder associated with abdominal fat, cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

Low-fat yogurt
Probiotics in products that contain live bacteria, like yogurt, help beneficial bacteria in the gut process food more efficiently. Low-fat or fat-free yogurt (skip the flavored versions, they’re full of sugar!) is a great source of protein and calcium, and studies have found that eating yogurt as part of a reduced-calorie diet can help burn fat faster than going without.

Celery
You’ve probably heard of the “negative calorie diet” which claims that some foods, like celery, take more calories to eat and digest than they contain. That’s only partially true, but eating celery can still help you lose weight. It’s made up of mostly water and undigestible cellulose, so including it in your meals may help you eat less than you would otherwise.

Cinnamon
Did you know that cinnamon is a natural blood sugar stabilizer? After lots of speculation about the effect of this spice on insulin levels, a 2007 study confirmed that a teaspoon of cinnamon added to a dessert helped temper blood sugar spikes. Researchers are still trying to determine whether cinnamon could be an alternative treatment for type 2 diabetes.

Grapefruit

There’s a good reason grapefruit is so often recommended as an optimal breakfast for people who are trying to lose weight. This low-sugar, citrus fruit contains an antioxidant that has been found in studies to reduce insulin levels after eating a meal.

Broccoli
Broccoli contains two essential nutrients, calcium and vitamin C, which team up to boost metabolism – that is, as long as you have a healthy thyroid. Broccoli is also “goitrogenic,” meaning it can slow the production of thyroid hormones in people with thyroid disease.

Lean Meats and Fish
Lean protein from sources like meats and fish can help boost both your metabolism and your energy levels. Protein also helps curb hunger and ensure that the weight you lose is fat, not muscle. Having a higher lean muscle mass helps burn more calories on a daily basis, aiding in long-term weight control.

Garlic

Adding garlic to meals rich in fats and carbohydrates may keep those substances from wreaking havoc on your health. Studies have found that garlic supports blood sugar metabolism and helps control lipid levels in the blood. Of course, that doesn’t mean garlic bread is suddenly a health food, but adding crushed fresh garlic to your meals certainly wouldn’t hurt.

Oats
While many foods, like those high in sugar, can cause blood sugar spikes that cue the body to store fat, oats and other whole grains keep insulin levels low after you eat. This ensures that you burn calories instead of increasing the prominence of all your wobbly bits.

Olive Oil

Taking in fat in order to burn fat? It may not seem to make sense, but healthy monounsaturated fats like olive oil can actually aid the body in burning calories. But to get a benefit, you have to replace other types of fat – like cream or butter – with olive oil, and consume it only in limited quantities.

9 Effective Home remedies To Get Rid Of Cellulite Fast

Cellulite seems to be one of those problems that plagues many women these days. Based on the number of times cellulite remedies appear in women’s magazines, websites, and blogs, I’m guessing that this is a problem we still haven’t solved.

Most sources agree that the dimpled appearance of cellulite occurs due to problems/imbalance in the connective tissue and fat in a person’s body, but there are many theories about what may cause this imbalance. It seems that hormones, diet, lifestyle and genetics all play a role but are not absolutes. While those who are overweight tend to have a higher chance of getting cellulite, many thin women complain of it as well.

How to Get Rid of Cellulite (Naturally)
Below are natural remedies I’ve either tried myself or had trusted sources recommend. They should all help balance the connective tissue/fat in the body and address the many possible causes. Either way, these things are beneficial for other reasons too so they are worth a try!

1. Dry Brushing
This is one remedy that there may not be any scientific evidence that it works but that there is a lot of anecdotal support for. Either way, it feels great and helps stimulate blood and lymph flow in the body.

How often: Dry skin brushing effectively opens up the pores on your skin. This is something you can — and should — be doing daily, even twice a day. Your skin should be dry, so the ideal time is in the shower before you turn on the water. Just a reminder, don’t get the brush wet.

Direction: You should only brush towards the heart. Making long sweeps, avoid back and forth, scrubbing and circular motions. Start at your feet, moving up the legs on both sides, then work from the arms toward your chest. On your stomach, direct the brush counterclockwise. And, don’t brush too hard: Skin should be stimulated and invigorated but not irritated or red.

Type of brush: The bristles should be natural, not synthetic, and preferably vegetable-derived. The bristles themselves should be somewhat stiff, though not too hard. Look for one that has an attachable handle for hard-to-reach spots, if necessary.

Benefits: In addition to sloughing away dry skin on areas like knees, elbows and ankles, body brushing promotes tighter skin, cell renewal and blood flow. This also helps the lymphatic system release toxins and aids in digestion and kidney function. You’ll also notice a glowy, smooth complexion. We love it because it’s one of the easiest, cheapest and most effective things we can do for promoting healthy skin.”

It seems that a natural bristle semi-firm brush with a handle (like this one) is best and I keep mine in the shower to use daily right before showering.

Here is a tutorial video that explains the specifics:

2. Consuming Gelatin

According to Nourishing Traditions and much of the information I’ve read from the Weston A. Price foundation, there are various health benefits to Gelatin, including:

Gelatin supports skin, hair and nail growth
It is good  for joints and can help joint recovery
Can help tighten loose skin (like the kind you get after having four babies in five years…)
Can improve digestion since it naturally binds to water and helps food move more easily though the digestive track
Rumored to help improve cellulite
Great source of dietary collagen (side note: collagen is too large to be absorbed by the skin, so those skin creams are pretty useless… get it internally and use coconut oil for lotion!)
Source of protein (though not a spectacular one) but its specific amino acids can help build muscle.
Gelatin is largely composed of the amino acids glycine and proline, which many people don’t consume in adequate amounts as they are found in the bones, fibrous tissues and organs of animals and as a population, we don’t consume these parts as much anymore. These amino acids are needed not only for proper skin, hair and nail growth, but for optimal immune function and weight regulation!
One theory is that the decline of gelatin containing foods in our diets has led to an increase in cellulite as we don’t have the needed building blocks for healthy connective tissue. Either way, it is another remedy that is good for other reasons and worth a try.

Here are 12 ways I use Gelatin.

3. Myofascial Massage

One theory is that cellulite forms in the superficial fascia, a layer of connective tissue below the skin that contains fat cells. Superficial fascia is fibrous and due to inactivity, injuries, and improper exercise, adhesions (scar tissue) in the fascia can form contributing to the bunched-up or rippled look of the skin. Not only does the superficial fascia become more fibrous, thickened and coarse, less flexible, but it can also adhere to underlying structures that it normally slides over.

Some therapists are able to perform a type of massage called myofascial massage or myofascial release, which smoothes this layer of connective tissue and can apparently also help with some types of muscle and joint problems that are related to imbalances in the fascia.
For those of us who don’t have access to regular massage, it seems that using a deep tissue foam roller (like this one) regularly can greatly help as well.

4. Coffee Scrub

Coffee scrubs can be beneficial in reducing cellulite as well. The massage and exfoliation benefits skin by stimulating blood/lymph flow and the caffeine in the coffee has a tightening effect. Pinterest is speckled with accounts of coffee scrubs and wraps working for reducing cellulite and loose skin, and like the other remedies, it is at least worth a try. If nothing else, coffee smells great and this scrub will exfoliate skin:

You will need:

1/4 cup coffee grounds
3 tablespoons sugar or brown sugar
2-3 Tablespoons of melted coconut oil
What to do:
Combine the ingredients to create a paste-like consistency (note that it will harden if cooled if you are using unrefined coconut oil). Store in a glass jar.

To Use:

Massage in to skin for several minutes using firm pressure and wash as usual. Use 2-3 times a week. Results should be visible within a couple of weeks.

5. Kettlebells

Kettlebells are one of my favorite ways to workout and they are especially good for the hips/thighs/buttocks/stomach areas (don’t believe me? do one kettlebell workout and let me know how your thighs feel the next day!)
Increasing blood flow to these areas can help remove cellulite and kettlebells are one of the most effective ways to build muscle and burn fat (both which help minimize the appearance of cellulite)

6. Omega-3s

Another theory is that consumption of the wrong kinds of fats leads to an imbalance of the fatty acids that the body needs for smooth skin and tissue. There is some evidence that consuming enough Omega-3 fatty acids and fat soluble vitamins will help reduce cellulite over time. Either way, Omega-3s and fat soluble vitamins are important for many other functions in the body, so it won’t hurt to try it!

Personally, I take fermented cod liver oil daily for skin health (and for many other reasons).

7. Detox Baths

I love detox baths because they are relaxing, but yet another theory proclaims that toxin build-up in skin and fat tissues lead to cellulite. I couldn’t find any scientific evidence to back the toxin claim, but detox baths can be relaxing and great for the skin in other ways, so they are worth a try!
Here are three of my favorite detox bath recipes.

8. Moisturize Naturally

Just as detox baths may help remove toxins that can lead to skin problems (and maybe cellulite), constantly adding toxins back to the skin in the form of chemical-laden beauty products probably doesn’t help much! If you haven’t already, try using natural options for skin care and moisturizing. Simple coconut oil will work as an all-purpose moisturizer, but if you want to get a little more sophisticated, these are a few of my favorite recipes:
Perfect Silk Lotion Bars
3-Ingredient Lotion Bars
Homemade Luxurious Lotion

9. Balance Hormones

It seems that many sources agree that hormones play a large part in cellulite formation (one reason that women typically get it and men don’t) and that working toward proper hormone balance can help reduce cellulite. Even if it doesn’t get rid of cellulite, balancing hormones helps in so many other ways that it is worth working on!

9 Proven Ways To Lose Stubborn Belly Fat

Flat abs made easier

Belly fat is maligned for its way of tampering with any outfit that doesn’t involve a muumuu, but really there’s something way worse about the stuff: When white fat expands in your abdomen, nestling deep among your organs, it sets you up for some serious health trouble. We now know that this type of fat, called visceral fat, churns out stress hormones like cortisol and inflammatory substances called cytokines that affect the body’s production of insulin. The result: It’s worse than just being generally overweight; you’re looking at increased risks of type 2 diabetes and heart disease. (Get long and lean with sexy Flat Belly Yoga from Prevention!)

Never stop moving

There’s one thing to like about visceral fat: It yields fairly easily to aerobic exercise. Vaporizing calories via running, biking, swimming—anything that gets your heartrate up—wins over resistance training when it comes to getting rid of the stuff. A recent study from Duke found the sweet spot: Jogging the equivalent of 12 miles a week will help you lose belly fat.

This time, eat protein like you mean it

Of course you know that protein’s essential for a slimmer you and essential for losing belly fat—you couldn’t have made it through the Paleo and South Beach crazes without hearing all about it. But here’s why protein really needs to play a prime roll on your plate: “Your body starts to produce more insulin as you age, since your muscle and fat cells aren’t responding to it properly,” explains Louis Aronne, MD, Director of the Obesity Clinic at Cornell. And insulin promotes fat storage, especially around your belly (yippee!). A diet high in protein may protect you against insulin resistance, Aronne says. One easy way to up your intake is to add Organic Whey Protein to your smoothies, meals, or snacks.

In one study, obese women who followed a diet for eight weeks that was roughly 30% protein, 40% carbs, and 30% fat lost significantly more fat—including visceral pudge—than women who stuck to a plan that was 16% protein, 55% carbs, and 26% fat.

Pound the polyunsaturates

This just in: Saturated fat packs on more visceral fat than polyunsaturated ones, according to a Swedish study published this past February. When subjects ate 750 more calories daily for seven weeks, either in the form of palm oil (saturated) or sunflower oil (polyunsaturated), the former gained more visceral fat while the latter gained more muscle mass and less body fat. You know the deal: polyunsaturated fats are the ones in nuts, seeds, and fish and can help you lose belly fat.

Pucker up

Obese people who consumed a tablespoon or two of vinegar daily for eight weeks showed significant decreases in body fat, particularly visceral fat, according to a 2009 Japanese study. “One theory is that the acetic acid in the vinegar produces proteins that burn up fat,” explains Pamela Peeke, professor of medicine at the University of Maryland and author of Fight Fat After 40.

Try Yoga

Postmenopausal women who tried yoga for 16 weeks reported significant reductions in visceral fat in one 2012 study.  Or, if you’re just not that into downward dog, any sort of relaxation exercise, even simple deep breathing, can help—the key is to lower levels of the stress hormone cortisol, which is linked to belly fat. (Try these 2-minute stress solutions to calm down fast.) Try this 10-minute yoga routine for weight loss:

Go the f*#$ to sleep

Routinely squeaking by on five hours or less per night increases visceral fat levels, according to a 2010 Wake Forest University study. As you likely already know, 8 is the number to aim for and is ideal for losing belly fat. These 20 ways to sleep better every night can help.

…but don’t sleep late on weekends

Women who wake up and go to bed at the same time each evening have lower levels of body fat, according to a recent Brigham Young University study. Chaotic sleep habits cause your internal clock to go haywire, which in turn causes your body to secrete fat-storing hormones like cortisol. (Avoid these 10 more unhealthy weekend habits that set you up for a less-than-stellar week.)

Become the queen of this tea

Moderate exercisers who stocked up on the antioxidants found in green tea, called catechins, were more likely to lose belly fat while exercising than those who didn’t take them. One study put the daily dose at 625 mg, the equivalent of two or three eight-ounce cups of green tea. (Follow these steps to make the perfect cup of tea.)

Get fussy about fiber

As in, make sure you’re eating a lot of it. In a 2011 trial, subjects who increased their soluble fiber intake by 10 grams a day (the equivalent of two small apples, one cup of green peas, and one half cup of pinto beans) reduced visceral fat by 3.7% after five years.

5 Exercises to Gradually Re-Strengthen Your Core after Giving Birth

During pregnancy a woman’s mid-section — which consists of the abdomen, back and hips — goes through significant changes resulting in a temporary weakening of this core area.

The diminished strength of a woman’s core becomes noticeable when she attempts to initiate intra-abdominal pressure which is necessary to keep her torso upright during daily activities.
Women are generally encouraged to begin re-strengthening their core after completing the recommended 6 weeks of the postpartum recovery process.

Before starting any exercise routine it is important to get clearance from a physician to ensure that there are no long-term complications such as Diastasis Recti — a vertical separation of the abdominal muscles common after pregnancy.

The following post-pregnancy workouts are an excellent introduction to re-strengthen your postpartum core gradually

Integrate these postpartum exercises to your workout routine starting with short sets of 1 or 2 and work your way up to 3 to 4  sets as you begin to feel stronger.

1. Deep Belly Breathing

Belly breathing involves fully expanding and contracting your stomach with deep and lengthy breaths.
Lie on your back take a deep breath through your nose and breathe out completely through your mouth.
Each breath should be approximately 3 seconds in length.

Tired Of Not Having The Butt You Want? Take Our 30 Day Picture Perfect Butt Challenge And See Real Improvements In Your Backside In One Month – Guaranteed!

Sometimes it’s the little things you do that make the biggest impact.  While there are certainly tons of leg and butt workouts found on this blog, the majority of them require access to a gym.

Lately, we’ve been getting quite a few requests from some of our at home exercisers who want that picture perfect booty too, but without all the equipment some of our other plans require.  With that in mind, we set out to put together a 30 day challenge designed to provide noticeable improvements to your backside.  Now this certainly doesn’t mean you should hit 30 days and quit – look at this workout as your launching pad, and starting point, for the rest of your fitness (or butt) journey.

Now just because this workout was designed for our at home exercisers in mind, doesn’t mean it can’t or shouldn’t be used for all of your gym goers.  This workout truly is amazing and will do wonders for your butt.  If you’re already using one of our other lower body plans, I’d go as far to say consider throwing each day’s mini-workout into your day; perhaps first thing in the morning, on your lunch break, or right before bed.  The great thing about these workouts are they are so short and sweet – like REALLY short and sweet.

We’re talking no more than 5-10 minutes of your time.  Think you can handle that?  Just 5-10 minutes a day, for 30 days.  If you don’t like what you’re seeing, stop following along with the workout – no big time commitment wasted.

One last point – this workout gradually ramps up in intensity and repetitions.  If you’re already in an advanced state of butt firmness, I’d suggest starting from day 14.  If you’re looking to continue with these mini-workouts after your 30 days are up, I’d suggest you simply repeat days 24-30, perhaps even adding some repetitions as your ability allows.

So with that said, let’s check out what you’ll be doing for the next 30 days…

Day 1: 50 Body weight Squats
Day 2: 60 Body weight squats
Day 3: 65 Body weight Squats
Day 4: 65 Body weight Squats/35 Squat Jumps
Day 5: 75 Body weight Squats/35  Squat Jumps
Day 6: 80 Body weight Squats/45 Squat Jumps
Day 7: 90 Body weight Squats/50 Squat Jumps
Day 8: 95 Body weight Squats/30 Bulgarian Squat Jumps per side
Day 9: 100 Body weight Squats/40 Bulgarian Squat Jumps per side
Day 10: 110 Body weight Squats/50 Bulgarian Squat Jumps per side
Day 11: 115 Body weight Squats/55 Bulgarian Squat Jumps per side
Day 12: 120 Body weight Squats/30 Butt-to-Floor Squats
Day 13: 120 Body weight Squats/35 Butt-to-Floor Squats
Day 14: 120 Body weight Squats/40 Butt-to-Floor Squats
Day 15: 125 Body weight Squats/45 Butt-to-Floor Squats
Day 16: 130 Body weight Squats/50 Butt-to-Floor Squats
Day 17: 140 Body weight Squats/60 Butt-to-Floor Squats
Day 18: 170 Body weight Squats
Day 19: 180 Body weight Squats
Day 20: 180 Body weight Squats
Day 21: 190 Body weight Squats
Day 22: 195 Body weight Squats
Day 23: 200 Body weight Squats/60 Sumo Squats
Day 24: 200 Body weight Squats/70 Sumo Squats
Day 25: 205 Body weight Squats/80 Sumo Squats
Day 26: 215 Body weight Squats/90 Sumo Squats
Day 27: 225 Body weight Squats/70 Butt-to-Floor Squats
Day 28: 225 Body weight Squats/75 Butt-to-Floor Squats
Day 29: 230 Body weight Squats/60 Squat Jumps
Day 30: 240 Body weight Squats/70 Squat Jumps

One thing that bears mentioning; if you’re absolutely too sore from the previous day’s workout, it’s okay to skip a day.  Just be sure to pick back up when you’re able.  I certainly don’t want you doing too much, too fast.  But if you’re conditioned well, you should be able to knock these out in 30 straight days.

One thing you’ve probably noticed – there are no suggested sets.  I want you pushing yourself and trying to do these listed repetitions in as few sets as possible.  With that said, you definitely need to remember to keep strict form.

Doing half-ass reps, not going to 90 degrees on your body weight squats, not exploding off the ground during your squat jumps, or any other way you find to make things easier is not going to get you the results you want.  Give this one your max effort, stay consistent, and I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised with how things are shaping up after just 30 days.  If you make it through these 30 days intact, you’re ready to graduate to our 5 Week Bubble Butt Workout Plan below!

4 Exercises To Lift Your Boobs

The breasts are predominately a fatty tissue located directly over top of the pectoral muscles. One of the best ways to lift your breasts is to strengthen the muscles underneath your breasts as they help to support them. When these muscles are weak, they allow the breast tissue to sag. But if you develop these muscles, your breasts will get a nice lift.

The following exercises won’t turn A cups into Bs or beyond. But they can help you to build up your upper body muscles and improve the appearance of your breasts without having a surgery.

1. CHEST SQUEEZE WITH A MEDICINE BALL

The chest squeeze is a great way to warm up the chest before other exercises, or you can do it at the end of your chest work when your muscles are tired. This exercise works the chest and shoulder muscles.
Sit up straight on a chair and make sure that your back is straight and your stomach is tensed.
Hold a medicine ball at chest level and squeeze the ball to contract the chest.
While squeezing the ball, slowly straighten the arms, taking the ball straight out in front of you until the arms are straight.
Keep a steady pressure on the ball throughout the movement.
Bring the ball back towards the chest and repeat for 1-3 sets of 10 reps.

2. Push-up

Push up is a great exercise for firming your chest, and as an added bonus it will also strengthen your back and core muscles (for more exercises for your core see my post about the best exercises for getting a flat tummy). You can do it at home without any special equipment. For an easier variation you can place your knees on the ground.
Lie on your stomach and place hands on the ground next to your arm pits and push yourself up so your elbows are slightly bent. Make sure you keep your stomach tensed and slowly lower your chest to the ground then push yourself back up again. Repeat as many times as you can.
